Gladiator SS and RS
Japanese bike major Yamaha has made sport biking more accessible in India with Gladiator Type SS and Type RS. Packed with 28 new features, this 4-stroke, 11 bhp and 5-speed bike combines sports biking and style and the focus is on performance, styling, handling and comfort.
Yamaha’s race-bred technology delivers an enhanced ride, agile cornering and precise braking. The result is enjoyable sport biking experience. Added to this, the new Gladiator Type SS and RS have been designed for substantial improvement in running performance, overall sporty design and product reliability with added advantages of practical functionality, fuel economy and cost effectiveness.
Describing Gladiator as a next generation bike, T Maeda, chief marketing & sales officer, Yamaha Motor India says, “The Gladiator Type SS and Type RS have been designed to be true to the Yamaha DNA. In its category (125 cc), it is the only machine that can deliver a sport biking experience which is intrinsic to Yamaha brand. Catering to the young, evolving lifestyle market, Gladiator Type SS and Type RS will target young students or young executives who seek a solid machine with good overall product balance and distinctive style. The Type SS and Type RS is a strong product and we are confident it will drive our sales to the fifth gear.”
The Gladiator showcases benchmark 125cc styling, refinement and a free-revving 11 bhp engine with Yamaha Throttle Position Sensor (YTPS) technology that delivers improved standing acceleration. Its 5 speed close ratio transmission allows the rider to make the most of a wide power band to experience excellent performance in both around-turn and high-speed riding.
Aerodynamic racy under cowl, sporty tachometer, wind tunnel designed front cowl, lightweight aluminium wheels and powered front disc brakes gives it a dynamic yet sophisticated look. According to the bike will deliver a mileage of 67 km per litre on actual city road conditions. The Gladiator Type SS will be offered in two colours--yellow and red and Type RS in blue.
The bike will be priced at Rs 46,350 onwards ex-showroom. The company recently rolled out two of its flagship models the Super Sports YZF - R1 and the Torque Sports MT01 in the Indian market. Both are classic Yamaha bikes and will help build its brand and image in India.

The Suzuki Zeus
The Suzuki Zeus marks the Japanese giant's entry into the executive segment of the Indian bike market. The Zeus is Suzuki's second offering after the entry-level bike Heat.
The Zeus is equipped with a single cylinder, air-cooled, four-stroke 124cc engine that generates a peak power of 8.7 bhp (one of the lowest in its class) at 7000 rpm and a maximum torque of 10 Nm at 3500 rpm. Thus the lack of power is offset by the overall torquey performance. Zeus is one of the few bikes in the market that do not have a constant velocity (CV) carburetor.
On the styling department, the unique front bikini fairing and under-engine front cowl imparts a stylish and aerodynamic look to the Zeus. The V-shaped, large multi-reflector headlamp enhances visibility and bright gear indicator lights come above a speedometer and a quick-reacting tachometer in classic twin-pod format.
Despite offering some goodies like optional disc brake for the front wheel, die-cast sub-frame and aluminium rear grab rail, the Zeus misses out on crucial features like electric start, box section swing arm for better turning stability (the Zeus features a conventional tubular swing arm) and thicker rear tyre.

The Suzuki Heat
The Suzuki Heat is Suzuki's entry-level bike. With the 125cc Heat, Suzuki is trying to woo the economy-segment buyers with a more powerful bike.
The Heat is equipped with a single cylinder, four-stroke engine that produces a displacement of 124cc. On the suspension aspect, telescopic coil springs do duty at the front while the rear suspension is taken care by swing-arm type coil springs.
The Heat comes with a large 12-litre fuel tank with a 2.1 reserve. The idea is to ensure longer ride without refueling in rural areas where petrol pumps are sparsely situated. On the styling front, flashy decals and stylish graphics run the length of the bike and the multi-reflector headlamp enhances visibility.
